Turn the Aircraft to Clear the Runway Approach
Turning your head isn't enough – position the aircraft so you can see both ways before entering or crossing a runway, and ask AFIS if unsure of traffic.

Before entering or crossing any runway, carry out a thorough lookout in both directions. This applies both when lining up to depart and when crossing a runway to get somewhere else on the aerodrome.
A safe lookout takes more than just turning your head. Manoeuvre the aircraft as necessary so you can see clearly in both directions – physically turning the aircraft is often the only way to achieve this.
At NZPP, if you're unsure about traffic in the circuit, don't hesitate to ask AFIS for an update on aircraft positions to help your situational awareness.
