Don't Enter the Runway Ahead of Short-Final Traffic
Aircraft entering the runway with traffic on short final have forced go-arounds: look out thoroughly before entering, and go around whenever the approach isn't right.

Aircraft entering the runway while another aircraft is on short final have caused multiple go-arounds at our aerodrome. It highlights the need for vigilance – and for a timely go-around when conditions aren't right.
Whether it's due to pilot error, misjudgement or an external factor, if at any point during your approach you're not satisfied, go around. It's always safer to power up and try again than to continue in uncertain circumstances.
Before entering the runway, do a thorough lookout and be fully aware of the traffic in the circuit. Check especially for aircraft on final approach or going around, and confirm the positions of nearby aircraft before you proceed. Situational awareness is key to preventing dangerous incidents on the ground and in the air.
Go-around sequence
- Power up – apply full power.
- Pitch up – set the appropriate climb attitude.
- Clean up – retract flaps or adjust as necessary.
- Communicate – once safely climbing, make your radio call.
Always remember the fundamental order: Aviate, Navigate, Communicate.
